Why take advantage?

The ocean covers 70.8% of our planet's surface. The experience begins here, at 70.8...
Climate, biodiversity, transport, energy, food, health... the ocean is at the heart of the greatest challenges of the 21st century.
Drawing on the expertise of marine scientists, training organizations and industry, 70.8 is the new center for scientific, technical and industrial culture inaugurated in Brest. Through the exploration of 3 major themes, 70.8 is a scientific museum dedicated to the ocean.
From marine biotechnologies to deep-sea exploration, from maritime routes to marine renewable energies, from tomorrow's means of transport to satellite-based knowledge of the ocean, 70.8 makes advances in knowledge accessible to all.

MARITIME INNOVATIONS AND TECHNOLOGIES SHOWCASED OVER 1,000 sq. m.

Molecules of marine origin are present in our everyday lives. Confectionery, desserts, processed dairy products... Seaweed is everywhere in the kitchen, bringing us its many properties! On the health front, scientists have discovered that a starfish molecule blocks the cell division that causes cancer. Clinical trials are currently underway. Marine mushrooms and sardines are the source of certain medicines. Fluorescence, discovered in the 50s, has completely revolutionized medical imaging. Researchers originally worked on the luminescence of jellyfish.
WHAT DO WE DISCOVER AT 70.8?

Nearly 50 multimedia and interactive devices, games, reports and strikingly realistic models punctuate the 70.8 visit for each theme presented. Deep-sea exploration, marine renewable energies, transport and maritime routes are just some of the subjects that immerse visitors in a truly unique and unprecedented visitor experience.
Experience and play at the service of knowledge, or how to understand the challenges of marine biotechnologies along a sandy and rocky foreshore nearly 20 meters high, where visitors interact with some of the animals of our coasts! The visit takes place on three levels, with three main themes reminding us of the omnipresence of the ocean in our lives. Discover its resources for today and tomorrow, understand its role in the climate machine and learn more about it to preserve it, and finally discover its role in world trade through the engineering treasures that govern maritime routes and drive naval innovation!
